Children's School Offerings

Learn about our programs for the 2025–26 school year:

Nitzanim

Preschool & Pre-K tots meet monthly on Sundays, 9:30–10:30 AM.

Nitzanim (נִצָּנִים - "sprouts") is designed to welcome 3- and 4-year olds to our Children's School to help prepare them for our weekly K–8 program. In each session of Nitzanim, we learn about a different Jewish holiday (including Shabbat!).

Nitzanim meets monthly on Sunday mornings from 9:30–10:30 AM. Adults stay and participate alongside their children.

Note: Four-year olds ready for a weekly drop-off program are welcome to attend our weekly Sunday School (see below).

This program is open to all.
Tuition is $250 per student.

Sunday School

Grades K–8 meet weekly on Sundays, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM, following the Somerville Public Schools calendar with a few exceptions.

Each week at Temple Bnai Brith’s Children's School, students gather on Sunday mornings from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM for a joyful, hands-on learning experience rooted in Jewish values and community. Our multi-age classes allow children to grow from beginners to explorers to experts within the same group, learning collaboratively and teaching one another along the way. Groupings are fluid and responsive, especially during Hebrew decoding and prayer exploration, when students are supported based on their individual ability and interest.

Our program blends Hebrew language and Jewish learning with music, art, storytelling, and outdoor play, all within an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child is seen, supported, and celebrated. Check out the full curriculum here!

Note: Four-year olds ready for a weekly drop-off program are welcome!

Our program is open to all.
Tuition is $1,200 per student.
There is an additional Non-Member Fee of $750 per student.
Scholarships are available to TBB members.

Jewish Identity with Rabbi Eliana

Grades 5–8 meet on Wednesday afternoons between December 2025 and March 2026.

It's back! Rabbi Eliana Jacobowitz is re-launching her ten-session course for students (grades 5–8) preparing for their b'nai mitzvah. The course explores topics of Jewish identity and community and is designed to complement — not replace — individual b’nai mitzvah tutoring. Snacks will be provided.

Students in grades 5–8 explore what it means to be Jewish in today’s world. Through open and respectful discussion, we’ll talk about belief in God, cultural Judaism, Hebrew and Yiddish, the Holocaust, Israel, Jewish observance, ethics, and the balance between Jewish and secular life. We’ll also explore how to make Jewish choices and live our values, including Tikkun Olam. Along the way, students will bond through shared projects like movie night and a mitzvah project, building trust, friendship, and a deeper connection to their Jewish identity.

This course is open to members of Temple B'nai Brith.
Tuition is $500 per student; scholarships are available.

Madrichim

Our Madrichim (Hebrew for "guides") are in 8th through 12th grades. They are often graduates of our Children's School who return after their b'nai mitzvah year to:

  • Continue education on what it means to be an “adult” member of a Jewish congregation
  • Get paid to work!
  • Learn valuable teaching skills by helping our teachers in the classroom and beyond
  • Continue building lifelong friendships with other Jewish teens
