After sundown on Sunday, May 11, 2008, we count:

day 22 of the omer

Hayom shnayim v'esrim yom shehaym shloshah shavuot veyom echad la-omer.

Today is twenty-two days which are three weeks and one day in the omer.

Israeli Folk Dancing

Israeli Dancing The Program Committee invites you to join us for Israeli Folk Dancing from 7:00 to 9:00pm, on the second and fourth Sundays of every month (except June 8, because of Shavuot). This program is designed for adults (teens and up), and instruction will be provided. Please bring soft-soled shoes to protect our floors. The suggested donation is $3 for adults and $2 for students.

Shavuot

Torah Shavuot, the Season of the Giving of Our Torah, will be celebrated at the shul on Sunday evening, June 8. We will celebrate the giving of the Torah by spending an evening, in community, studying it. The schedule of the evening and next morning will be:

Sunday, June 8 (evening)

5:30: arrivals and snack
6:00: first classes — for adults, children, and youth, divided by age
7:00: dairy dinner together, vegan options available
8:00: second classes — welcoming to youth, but targeted to adults

Monday, June 9 (morning)

7:00: learning with Phil Weiss before morning festival services

At this time, there are six wonderful teachers signed up to share texts and insights with you on June 8. Details will be posted here as the topics and schedule are firmed up closer to the date.

Members of our community make different choices about how to observe Shavuot. Some people, because they want to share this event with their young children, will want to come to the early classes. Some will wait until the later classes, when the entire 49 days of the Omer counting will be complete. Some people choose to study at home in the evening and come to Phil's class in the morning. Yontif on June 8 actually comes in at 8:02. Please feel free to join us for whatever part of this event works for you.
